Rarely do I give my stamp of approval to restaurants because many are mediocre but Panang’s Thai Restaurant in Oklahoma City sticks out like a soar thumb in the taste and hospitality category; no I was not paid for this review.
Located at 9022 S. Pennsylvania Avenue Oklahoma City, OK 73159 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Panang truly gives its visitors a taste of Thailand. It’s open everyday; Monday – Thursday 11am – 9pm , Friday – Sat. 1am – 10pm and Sunday 12pm – 9pm. When you enter the restaurant you instantly feel you’re in an established created from the ground up. It also strikes me as a family-owned business and I’m a huge supporter of small-business owners.
The place is quaint, neat, and conforms to the family-friendly atmosphere where children are welcome. I’ve had the privilege of visiting Panang’s several times and the service has been superb every single time. When you enter you are normally greeted and taken to a table of your choosing. Now lets get to the food. You can pick from an assortment of items including papaya salad, chili shrimp, garlic seafood, Himapan shrimp, cashew nuts stir-fried, or my favorite spicy basil fried with chicken (above), shrimp, beef, tofu, pork, or vegetables. Of course there’s more on their menu but these are things I recommend. I highly recommend Panang because their food has responsible flavor; YES RESPONSIBLE FLAVOR. It’s not overcooked and it’s spiced correctly with various vegetables and Thai flavor additives. My favorite beverage is the Thai tea; featured above. I can’t describe the flavor but it’s an eccentric and popular drink at Panang. Secondly, the ambiance is soothing and excellent for a first date, a family gathering, or if you want to eat alone.
In addition, vegetarians are even welcome and they can cater to your selection. A restaurant that can accommodate a multitude of patrons with different wishes will always get my blessing and Panang Thai Restaurant has achieved this. Their menu also has soups, salads, stir-fried choices, a vibrant curry selection, and seafood specials. If you love seafood then you’re in Seafood Heaven when you visit this cultured eatery. Speaking of culture Panang isn’t cookie cutter. Various forms of art and Thai culture adorn the wooden border of place giving the visitor a trip across the pond.
The prices are more than decent ranging from $7.99 to $12.99 depending on your selection and the portions are large so you will be leaving with a to-go box. The waiter at Panang insisted that I use their pictures but I decided to take my own. I’ve featured them above. If you want more feel free to visit their website at www.panangthaifood.com.
