Who’s supposed to be in the middle? The Beyoncé Effect is an understood and unspoken expectation that the most beautiful girl, woman should be featured in the middle of a picture or photograph.  The Beyoncé Effect was created by Trae McNeely as a way to highlight online social patterns when sharing photos and media.  It is more prevalent on Facebook and Twitter when pictures are taken of females.  This taboo subject, The Beyoncé Effect, most often involves young girls and middle aged women who inadvertingly flank or surround the prettiest female when taking a photograph.  The Effect gets its origins from the hit R&B group Destiny’s Child featuring Beyoncé Knowles and two other women.

The above picture is a picture of the hit women’s group Destiny’s Child. As explained, the most photogenic person is featured in the middle. Criticism of The Beyoncé Effect only highlights our societal norms. This photo phenomenon isn’t meant to stir controversy. It is a deliberate campaign to show society’s superficiality and the human tendency to reward the beautiful.

The above picture is a classic example of The Beyoncé Effect. The snapshot was taken extemporaneously and without deep thought. Many Beyoncé Effect pictures are taken at local bars, clubs, outings, or even family functions.

The (above) photo like many others are hard to judge. This photo phenomenon remains an unspoken subject of discussion because it often makes women feel self-conscious about their overall appearance as society sets an unattainable bar of beauty. The average female competes in a daily competition to look their best and highlight their assets from their teen adolescence well into their adult life. Lastly, the Beyoncé Effect is more prevalent when viewing online photos on popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and other social sites. Peruse your photos and a trend will follow.
