So, it was South Korea’s Psy with the highly infectious Gangnam Style video and dance which has over 1 billion YouTube views and counting. Now it’s Muhammad Shahid Nazir’s ‘One Pound Fish.’ Interesting enough the guy is a fish seller and his wanna be Gangnam Style video has caught the attention of Warner Music, several news outlets, with over 11 million YouTube views and counting.
There’s something about this video that screams, “Insert foreign non-American character, create stupid dance, and finish it with a techno beat.” Is it me or do you think Muhammad Shahid Nazir’s ‘One Pound Fish’ Music Video is riding the coattails of Psy’s Gangnam Style? Although Muhammad never had intentions of being a YouTube star because of a social media ban in Pakistan I think the creators who took his fish-selling chant think otherwise. Just because it’s on YouTube doesn’t mean it will be mainstream in America. I think that’s what they were hoping. Much success to Muhammad Shahid Nazir and only time will tell if he can net millions from selling one pound fish.
